Networked Audio Without The Computer

No computer and no mouse–just the hands-on efficiency of real buttons for all operations. Ethernet Audio® is the link to Mac® and PC-based audio workstations. Now, audio programs produced on DAWs can be easily played, manually or from automation, with DigiCart/EX. When it’s time to actually move an audio file, it’s many times faster than real-time. Clear and easy to use, DigiCart/EX is designed from the ground up for broadcast professionals.

DigiCart/EX Works the Same As DigiCart II

Anyone who uses DigiCart II will know how to use DigiCart/EX. It offers better displays, better screen messages, and new networking features, but with the same familiar buttons. It’s 100% compatible with earlier DigiCart recorders, plays files produced on them, and uses similar front panel commands. All earlier DigiCart files can be played–whether Dolby AC-2, 16-bit linear, 44.1 or 48K-so valuable program content and archives can be carried forward. DigiCart/EX can also create new files for use in DigiCart II, letting earlier hardware remain a valid part of a new facility.

New Editing Tools

DigiCart/EX provides a faster way to edit audio. Edits can always be undone, and trim points can be easily changed for a future re-edit of the cut. DigiCart/EX provides clear indications of edit points and the present location within a cut.

Features

  • Head trims
  • Tail trims
  • Fade-ins
  • Fade-outs
  • Pre-roll time
  • Gain change

File Interchange With DAWs

DigiCart/EX uses .WAV files as a new native format, and can accept broadcast wave (.BWF) files as well. It is compatible with most popular workstations, including Pro Tools®. Using Ethernet as the file-exchange medium, DAW files can be exported in .WAV format to a 360 Systems’ Ethernet Audio™ server, where they are immediately available from any DigiCart/EX terminal.

Local Storage Plus Shared Network Storage

DigiCart/EX provides an extra level of reliability by storing audio files on its own local hard drive, in addition to the Ethernet Audio file server. For example, by optionally copying files from the server to a DigiCart/EX, playback is virtually guaranteed, regardless of the status of the audio network. Should a file used by Master Control be removed from the server, it can be played from the local hard drive on Master Control’s DigiCart.

Sophisticated Playlisting Capability

DigiCart EX provides the ability to create playlists from a simple spot break to a complex program lasting days or even weeks. Playlists can be built from individual cuts or other playlists. Rotating lists allow variations to be programmed, or operation as an “on demand” rundown list triggered by the operator or an external GPI.

Great Audio Quality For Production

24-Bit Quality

Great Audio Quality For Production . 24-Bit Quality DigiCart/EX’s 24-bit audio circuit design delivers 112 dB of dynamic range from its analog inputs. Our Bit-for-Bit™ digital design also maintains 24-bit integrity through the AES/EBU ports, assuring error-free reproduction not only of standard PCM files, but also of Dolby® AC-3 or Dolby-E recordings.

Sample Rate Compatibility

Although most users will work at a 48 kHz sample rate, DigiCart/EX is equally adept at 44.1, 88.2 and 96k. A high-quality sample rate converter can be positioned at either the input or the output, permitting conversion of any sample rate to 48K, or any other rate. Now 44.1, 88.2, and 96k music masters can be converted to standard 48K audio for video.

Word-Length Compatibility

DigiCart/EX plays files of almost any word length – 16, 20, or 24-bit. In addition to recording new material at 24-bits, it can also deliver 16-bit digital audio for compatibility with other digital audio products, or earlier DigiCart recorders.

Mixed File Types Allowed

DigiCart/EX is able to store audio in many different formats, and play them consecutively without changing machine setup. Any desired output format, such as 48K-16-bit, can be selected, regardless of how the original file was recorded.

Serial and GPI Control

A variety of serial and parallel ports adapt DigiCart/EX to most facilities:

  • An EIA-422 serial port accepts Digicart serial protocol, supported by almost every automation system. It also operates with 360 Systems’ RC-320 desktop remote control, and accepts Peripheral Bus (E-Mem) commands, giving DigiCart/EX direct control from many video switchers.
  • Five optically isolated GPI inputs provide control of play, stop, record, pause, and loop. These conform to the DigiCart II connector, making upgrades easy.

DigiCart/EX® Digital Audio Recorders

A time-proven standard DigiCart recorders are hands-on machines. Its “real” buttons, jog wheel and display make it a first choice for fast-paced operations. For good reason, the new DigiCart/EX continues as a twenty-year industry favorite. Most users will never need to open an Operations Manual to operate DigiCart/EX.
